RULES AND CONDITIONS

The Cultural Association “Contemporary Art Addiction” in collaboration with and financed by the Puglia Region (the regional council of Puglia) and the Province of Lecce (the county council of Lecce) and the “Comune of Nardò”(the town council of Nardò) take great pleasure in announcing the 5th edition of the Ecological International Film Festival.

1 - The main aims and objectives of the Festival are as follows:

- To discover and evaluate both national and international cinema under the themes of the environment, ecology and protection and preservation of the territory.

- To give the public the possibility to of getting to know both the authors and subject material which would normally be unavailable in mainstream distribution.

- To promote through consciousness raising, and to stimulate knowledge of the environment and its protection with the involvement schools.

2 - The Festival will take part in the Comune of Nardò and in other town council of Salento on August 2012 (dates available on the site www.eiff.it).

3 - Participants may present film or video (Documentary and Fiction) which has reference to the following themes;

Ecology (films about nature, landscape, renewable energy, the city).

Contemporary society (films about the culture, economics, humanity and its values, exploitation)

Difference (films about the cultural differences, racism, poverty, mental illness, social integration)

Borders (film about the ethnic conflict, cultural, social and war in all its manifestations)

Nardo Cinema (Film related to Salento inspired by the stories and places of Nardò territory's)

4 - The competition will be divided into two sections; one reserved for the authors and one reserved for the schools.

5 - The section reserved to the authors is open to everyone, professionals and not professionals who have completed 18 years of age. The section reserved for the authors may be included operas Documentary, Fiction and Animation in three different sections on basis of length Short length (max.15 min) Medium length (between 16 and 50 minutes ) and a Longer length film (more than 51 minutes).

6 - The section reserved to the schools is open to all works of any subject and length. The competition is reserved to schools at the following levels Primary Schools, Middle schools and Secondary Schools, prizes will be given in all of the school categories mentioned.

7 - Authors and schools may enter more than one piece work.

8 - Participants may present works in film or in digital format, in Italian or in a Foreign Language providing it is subtitled in Italian.

9 - Participants must complete the Film Festival's official entry form in order to participate, this can be found on the Festival's website on the Internet. Those intending to take part must enrol in the competition on or before the 30th April 2012 (proof of entry will be seen by postmark on the entry) along with two copy of entry on DVD (PAL) of the film or video, and including adequate documentation and information as describes in art. 10.

10 - Enrolment is free. The enrolment form and disclaimer are downloadable from the Internet website www.eiff.it or www.ecologicofilmfestival.it.

The official entry form and disclaimer must be fully completed, in addition a CD should be attached with the following:

- two photographs of scenes from the film

- a brief synopsis (100 words max)

- a biography of the film director (50 words max)

- a photograph of the film director.

The photos should be sent with a resolution of 300 dpi.

11 - The enrolment form, two DVD and the personal information (CD) should be sent before the closing date of 30th April 2012 to the following address; Ass. Culturale Contemporary art addiction c/o Roberto Quarta, P.le Grosseto n. 8, 73100 Lecce, Italy.

On the envelope it should be specified that the contents are of “no commercial value and for educational uses only”. The film should be sent through postal mail; non-compliance of terms and modes of registration and postage will be excluded from the competition.

12 - Postal expenses are the responsibility of the participants. Postage tax will be refused. The sending of any films within Italy should be sent by ordinary post, priority post, or by courier , mail sent with the European Union should be sent by EMS or by courier and any works sent from outside the European Union should be sent by airmail with the relevant customs duties enforced (AWBE), with any eventual communication of posting sent with the reference number to the organisers of the Festival.

13 - The Organization will keep and take care of all works received, but it does not assume responsibility for eventual stealing, damage or loss at the time of receiving or during the festival itself.

14 - On sending the work the sender declares him/herself to be the holder of all rights of use, and that the contents of the work should not violate any laws in force and that the work does not contain anything of a defamatory nature. In all cases the author releases the organisers from all responsibilities regarding the loss, damage, costs of any nature to his/her work during projection etc.That the author will take responsibility for any copyright protection (SIAE) and costs relating to this, and for the payment for any rights in the case of using music belonging to another or third party.

15 - The works sent will not be returned and will become part of the patrimony /archives of the Ecological International Film Festival.

16 - The Manager of the Festival will select the best film in each section and for those reaching the finals of the competition.

17 - Authors and Schools who reach the finals, will be contacted by the organizers of the Festival. They should send a copy of their work in DVD format (PAL) and they will be shown during the days of the festival.

18 - The original of all works projected at the competition will only be returned on explicit request of the authors, by courier or priority post at the expense of the author him/herself to the address indicated on the official entry form, within 90 days of the end of the Festival.

19 - The finalists will be judged by a panel of judges, and prize winners will be announced on the last day. Prizes will be awarded only to winning authors. If the winners do not withdraw the cash prizes during the awards ceremony, the prize money will be used by the Cultural Association Contemporary Art Addiction for cultural promotion activities.

20 – The prizes of the section reserved for the authors are six: three prizes in money and 3 awards plaques for the best film theme.

In accordance with the article 21, the judges word is final and the following prizes will be awarded for films or videos of the Long Length Film section (€. 1500), Medium Length Film section (€. 1000), Short Length Film section (€. 500) in conformity with art. 21.

For the schools categories a plaque will be presented for the first prize winners in the following categories; Primary School, Middle School, Secondary School.

21 - The jury at its sole discretion may decide not to award any prize to the authors of the selected films in each section. In addition, cash prizes will be awarded to winning authors, and if only the Associazione Culturale Contemporary Art Addiction has received the whole amount of requested regional funding. Besides, the disbursement of the prize in money to the winning authors is bound to the signature of a contract of distribution, signed by the holder of the rights of the film. The contract of distribution doesn't foresee in some way the transfer of the rights of the author or the producer, but only the right to project the film according to anticipated formality from the contract and for a limited time.

22 - The authors authorize the projection of the films enroled for didactic purposes in both primary and secondary schools, for cultural initiatives and for the promotion of the Festival itself. Other uses will strictly abide by any laws currently in force, and the rights of the author.

23 - The Festival Directors have the right to add or make any changes to any of the 'rules and conditions' found in the present 'rules and conditions'.

24 - The participants of the competition, on completion of the official entry form hereby authorise the “Cultural Association Contemporary Art Addiction” (the festival organising body) in line with the law 675/1996, use and treatment of personal data and to use their nomination and related address for things related to and connected to the competition. The owner of this personal data sent to the Association will be the Association itself. This is specified in law 13.L.675/96 and all data will be available for any changes or corrections that should need to be made.

25 - By enrolling in the Festival implicates the respect and acceptance of all the 'rules and conditions' laid down in the 'rules and conditions'. For any controversy derived from the use of film works, will be  under the jurisdiction of the court of Lecce. In case of any contestations of the meaning of parts of the 'rules and conditions', those written in Italian will be used as an example.
